Only 8,594 TR 250 examples were produced during its one-year production run. It was essentially a TR6 powertrain fitted to a TR4 body because Leyland did not have TR6 body panels ready in time for production. Unique in part because its European sibling the TR5 was fitted with Petrol Injection but didn’t meet US emissions standards at the time.
This resulted in the re-naming of the model to 250 (2.5 liter) and required that the TR250 be fitted with carburetors and unfortunately somewhat less power. The limited production run was due to the launch in the following year of the TR6 which featured new styling but the same powertrain as the 250.
