Henry & Cherryl Schubach's 1973 TR6
I had just graduated from the University of Alberta with an education degree and secured my first teaching contract. Cherryl and I decided that we needed a new car- a sports car. We visited a number of dealerships in Edmonton including the British Leyland one. We concentrated on a MGB GT and a Triumph GT6 as they would serve us well during our cold winters. I remember being in the showroom looking at a GT6 when I noticed a car across the showroom with 15 inch redline tires. It was then that I knew that the TR6 was the car. I liked the fact it was a bit bigger and that it had a 6 cylinder engine.

We drove to Regina in late June for Cherryl’s parents 25th wedding anniversary. While here we went to Deluxe Motors on Broad street to see what deal we could make on a TR6. We made the deal and ordered a Pimento red car and a Hardtop for winter driving. Purchase price including the hardtop was $5292.00. The only regret was not adding an overdrive for an additional $250.00. We picked up the car on July 3, 1973.

The TR6 was our only vehicle and therefore drove it year round for 10 years before surrendering it to summer use only. It proved to be a very reliable car that never let us down.

In 2010 I had the car refurbished as it was showing signs of wear. This included new paint, a new interior and a rebuilt engine. Over the years the suspension has been renewed, an overdrive added and other cosmetic additions.

Cherryl and I enjoy driving our Triumph around Saskatchewan attending small town car shows. Nothing more enjoyable than cruising down the highway with the hum of those twin pipes resonating in your ears.
