Scott & Jill McDonald's 1967 Austin Mini
This car was originally sold in Victoria BC as an 850cc automatic, shortly traded in for a newer car and then sold to Mrs. Zasitko, who christened her "gertrude". The car was brought the car to Saskatoon where she drove it for many years until the early 80s, when it needed an extensive overhaul (mini automatics were notoriously difficult to keep running).
July 15th 2018 marked "gertrude's" first full day in the McDonald family. We trailered her home from under the deck at the Zasitko home in Regina, along with (literally) a ton of parts where she had spent more than 20 years as a project that just never quite got started and they begrudgingly let her go. She looked even smaller on the trailer.
From there the dismantling began, prepping her for the body shop where she'd spend 3 years on the rotisserie for a body off restoration while we worked with the engine and subframes. She came home on a -40 January day of 2021. Stefan Kolla (Kolla Autobody) did a fantastic job in Cudworth where she was rechristened "the goblin".
The reassembly and wiring finished just in time for her first appearance at Brits by the bess in 2022. In 2024, she went back to Regina for "British cars and Irish bars" and to show Mrs. Zasitko the "mostly" finished result. She is being thouroghly enjoyed with this restoration and has travelled from Regina to LaRonge so far...
