Fall Colours Drive -Maple Creek, Fort Walsh and West

Slide show with 26 pictures

From the main street of Maple Creek to Highway 271 passing the Cypress Hills Vineyard and Winery (8 AM so no wine sampling today)then heading southwest to the Fort Walsh turn off. A very winding road courses up to the top of the west block of the Cypress Hills InterProvinical Park through a mass of colour. Turning again south to the Fort Walsh Historic Site - lots of colour in the distance and many cattle enjoying a warm and sunny morning. No Parks Canada staff on hand, a brief walk took me past the beautiful bronze statue of a native warrior and a Northwest Mounted Police constable, on to the civilian grave yard that overlooks Fort Walsh. From Fort Walsh to the conglomerate cliffs above Adams Lake- a one time home of Trumpeter Swans. Driving south and west of Adams Lake I followed Battle Creek through the valley to Ressor Lake in Alberta -then calling it a day. The slide show ends with a photo of sunset over the small town of Maple Creek EAD.
